Romantic Masterworks featuring Capriccio Espagnol – Rimsky Korsakov; Rhapsody on a theme of Paganini – Rachmaninov, with Jong-Gyung Park, piano and Symphony No 8 in G – Dvorak.
Three giants of the Romantic era provide an exciting programme of orchestral works. Rimsky-Korsakov had a particular fascination with all things Spanish, hence the Capriccio Espagnol. His compatriot, Rachmaninov, found a fruitful source for orchestral and pianistic variety in Paganini’s famous Capriccio No 2. Dvorak’s cheery and optimistic 8th symphony is one of his most popular works, drawing its inspiration from the Bohemian folk music that he loved.
