Delightful extracts from Rimsky-Korsakov’s opera, sometimes known as Le Coq d’Or, form the opening orchestral suite. Then both tuba-player, Mark Peck, and the orchestra go through their paces in the exciting Concerto by Edward Gregson, composed in 1978. Finally, there is the majestic first symphony of Brahms, which immediately attracted the soubriquet of ‘Beethoven’s Tenth’!
