Natural Causes are a quartet from Norwich, Torquay, Huddersfield and Lancaster. They write and arrange songs by email, improvise, and collaborate internationally and write instant songs.
For this weekend in Norfolk, they will be playing live with silent films, alongside playing songs. At the Regal Cinema, they will perform their accompaniment to the 1940/50s experimental film-maker Maya Deren’s ‘At Land’, which Natural Causes accompany with six songs from words by the poet Jackie Kay.
They will also perform with ‘The Wax Inspector’, a collaboration with the West Yorkshire puppet theatre company Faulty Optic. They will play new songs, songs from their Wire-reviewed album, ‘Spoons’, and more… In The Wire, Clive Bell called ‘Spoons’ “a five-song 30 minute offering that oozes wide-eyed charm.”
Natural Causes will be supported for this gig by The Happy Couple – the Surlingham-based instrumental duo of Judith Goodman (stringed instruments) and David Ross (jaw harp and mouthbow). They play folky instrumentals inspired by the outdoor locations where they often play and compose their pieces.
Come along for an afternoon of silent films, visuals, songs and more…
