“Silent films aren’t meant to be silent” says Bruce Vogt, classical pianist and head of keyboard at the University of Victoria where he has taught and lectured for the past 37 years. Our 2019 lecture event speaker has had a life long relationship with silent film, getting to know them as a teenager, when he and his brother started watching them, and improvising to them often throughout his career over the last 40 odd years here in England, Germany, Paris, Canada and Japan. In our Wymondham Festival Lecture event this year, Bruce will give us some insight into these films which he considers to part of the “golden age ” of film. And then we will be able to watch and listen too!
