Chris Dowding (solo), The Happy Couple, Joey Herzfeld Trio
We are happy to present three new bands and projects from around Norwich.
Chris Dowding (solo) will be performing a short solo trumpet piece with electronics. This piece is called ‘Piano Angel’, and is dedicated to the New York pianist Craig Taborn.
Chris Dowding is a trumpeter and workshop leader based in Norwich. He performs with the bands Natural Causes (www.naturalcauses.org.uk), Rude 2.0 (with the trombonist Annie Whitehead), and leads the Moonrise Trio.
He has performed at Dartington, Marsden Jazz Festival, and performs regularly at the Vortex Jazz Club in London. He is working on a debut solo album, called ‘This Love’, which will hopefully be released in November 2017.
The Happy Couple are Judith Goodman on assorted obscure string instruments and David Ross on Jew’s Harp and Mouthbow. They truly are a happy couple, who first met on the bus replacement service from Mile End Tube station to Leyton 23 years ago.
The pair recently moved from East London to live by a nature reserve in South Norfolk where they like to spend much of their time, weather permitting, playing music to the birds and trees. They have performed previously around Norfolk at Jurnets Bar and the York Tavern, both in Norwich.
The Joey Herzfeld Trio are a new trio from Norwich, playing the songs of Joey Herzfeld. The line-up is: Joey Herzfeld (accordion & vocals), Chris Dowding (trumpet), George McKay (double bass).
All three members of the band moved (in some cases back) to Norfolk within the last few years. Joey moved from London to Norfolk in 2016, and led several bands performing his own songs, in London, including his bands Hooverville and Joey Herzfeld and his So-Called Friends.
This trio came together in late 2016, and is an energetic trio featuring Joey’s dark and comic lyrics, George’s propulsive double bass playing, and Chris’ trumpet playing. They have performed several times at both Jurnets Bar and Cactus Cafe in Norwich.
